Lavenham is full of medieval charm with beautifully preserved timber framed houses, full of wonky charm.

A Little Walk Around the Village

We feel in love at first sight with Lavenham on our first visit 6 years ago.  Pre-child, we spent our days wandering round the boutique, independent and antique shops, soaking in the architecture and frequenting our favourite pubs (The Angel, Number 10 and The Greyhound).  If you need to be in children's bedtimes, then Memsaab curry house is superb.  Ben recommends the Haryali Masala!

Being dog friendly, we found it easy to take Frankie, our sausage dog everywhere with us.  We loved to visit Ickworth House, Bury St Edmunds and nearby Long Melford.

There are regular farmers markets with so many tempting foodie stalls, local arts and crafts, plants and flowers, and a refill van.

The shopping is great in Lavenham, with antiques, art, gifts, homeware, jewellery and fashion boutiques.  All independent and locally run, something really unusual these days.

A trip to the award winning butchers shop is a must!  So much for meat eaters to be tempted by.

I was lucky enough to be treated by Ben to a spa day at the wonderful Weavers Spa at The Swan.  What an incredible special occasion treat.

Penny loves the playground at the end of Water Street, which has a lovely large grassy area surrounding it...it's always quiet.  After that, she likes to go to the ice cream parlour for a pot of cherry ripple.

Taking a walking tour (you can book on Love Lavenham) is a great way to learn more about the heritage and history of Lavenham, and the Love Lavenham site itself has lots of ideas for things to do.

Something we have discovered since moving to Lavenham is the incredible concerts, gigs and events that go on throughout the year - we sat next to Aswad at The Cockhorse this summer!  Concert series. It really is a hub of culture and arts.  So exciting and varied throughout the year.

We feel lucky to be a part of the Lavenham community, and spending time at the cottage is a priority to us so we can engage and help to preserve what is so special about the village.
